Some say the recent boom in essential oil use for wellness is a craze,  In fact, essential oils have been around for thousands of years and used by many ancient cultures to support our body in a state of wellness both physically and emotionally.

Essential oils can inspire a positive emotional state by working synergistically with our limbic system, the center of emotion and memory.  While some oils may be uplifting others may empower you to let go of energy that needs be released.

Essential oils can help to clean and purify your home safely.  Most store products contain ingredients that we can't pronounce.  These toxins stay behind and can be very harmful to our family and pets.  Don't get me started on this one!!! ugh

Essential oils support your skin.  Many oils can hide fine lines, support healthy skin and deter abnormal cells.  Ingredients (good and not so good ones) penetrate your body within 30 seconds of application and leave long term residual effects.  Best to leave chemicals to the garage and plant based products for the skin.

Essential oils can create a deep spiritual awareness.  Apply  an empowering oil such as frankincense directly to wrist, feet, crown of head and behind the ears. Diffuse for a deep connection to source/spirit during quiet time, yoga or meditation.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are highly potent concentrates that come from plants, trees, shrubs, roots, flowers and bark extracted in a number of different processes; steam distillation, cold pressing and resin tapping.

Safety Tips

Dilute when necessary.  Some oils may be considered "hot" and can cause a burning sensation.  If you experience this hot feeling do not wash with water, instead apply a fatty oil like coconut oil, a vegetable or olive oil.  Applying a fatty oil will slow the absorption process.

Start Slow.  Essential Oils are potent and powerful.  In most cases 1-2 drops is all it takes and using more is a waste and may cause an adverse result.  Proper usage is indicated on each label.

Avoid contact with sensitive areas.  Eyes, ears, genitals and mucus membranes would be considered sensitive.  DO NOT drop oils directly into ears.  If you accidently get an oil in your eye, do not rinse with water, instead get your fatty oil such as V-6 or coconut and apply directly to your eye.

Citrus oils and sunlight.  Citrus oils contain molecules that react with sunlight (UV light) and may cause a sensitivity affect.  Avoid direct sunlight for 12 hours if you have applied topically.

Pregnancy and nursing.  It is recommended that prior to any essential oil use seek the advise of a competent, trained health care advisor that is experienced with essential oils. *There are resources available to guide you in properly using essential oils if you choose. Gentle Babies: Essential Oils and Natural Remedies for Pregnancy, Childbirth, Infants and Young Children by Debra Raybern 0981695485 9780981695488 (discoverbooks.com)

Essential oils and children.  Many oils are appropriate for use with children.  Dilution is always recommended.  Young Living KidScents® line is pre-diluted.  Please read the product label for administration before use.

Medical conditions.  If you have a medical condition  or are using prescription medication, it is recommended that you consult with a health advisor that has experience with essential oils and speak with a pharmacist about potential interactions between medications and essential oils.

Essential oils and my pets.  Our pets can benefit from the use of Young Living oils too!  Dilution rations and oil selectin is key for our furry friends safety - There are oils that will support our pets and some that should be avoided.  A great resource that I turn to is Essential Oils Animal Desk Reference: young living essential oils, Life Science Publishing: 0724519207520: Amazon.com: Books
